On July 26, 1967, Pope Paul VI visited The House of Virgin Mary where led the Liturgy and gave a bronze candle holder as a gift. Piligrims drink from a spring under the house, which is believed to have healing properties, and put special wishes at the ''Wishing Wall'', strongly believe they will come true! What attracts the most visiting Izmir, is the wonderful contrast of the modern city with ancient Agora. You’ll have a panoramic tour through the very modern city of Izmir, the third largest city in Turkey with history dating back to the 3rd century BC. The most famous sights are The Oriental Tower Clock built in 1901 but elaborated later, in Ottoman style; the Elevator, best place for a panoramic city view and holiday album moment; Konak Square and its waterfront Kordon. We enter Archaeological Museum which houses many artifacts found in the Agora – a superb collection of antiquities including the statues of Poseidon and Demeter. Tour the Agora of Smyrna that serves as the main draw card – a Roman square where Colonnades of tall stone Corinthian columns can still be found standing. See its rectangular form and spacious inner court. Learn about the first floor that was used for trading and the second floor for government meetings and gatherings. Walk on Kemeralti where we see the famous Kizlaragasi Han (Inn)- a beautiful example of 18th C Ottoman architecture. Some free time for shopping. Drive back to Port.

TOUR 6: Private Altar Of Zeus + Temple Of Dionysus + Asclepion + Acropol + Lunch

In the Acropolis, above the modern town, are the remains of The Temple of Trajan; The Temple of Athena; The famous Pergamon's Library of 200,000 volumes!; Altar of Zeus which is said to be 'the place where Satan has his throne' (Revelation 2:13); a steep and impressive theatre, the Sanctuary of Demeter, a gymnasium laid out on three terraces and the Agora. Then visit The Asclepion - was perhaps the world's most famous ancient medical center, and the second most important site in Bergama, located to the southwest of the lower city was a sanctuary dedicated to the god of health: Asclepios. Red Courtyard or Red Basilica was built for worship of the Egyptian gods Serapis, Isis and Harpocrates when Egyptian religion was reaching into the Roman Empire. Later on the Byzantines preserved the sacred place, building the Church of St. John the Apostle. The building is still sacred in our days as there is a mosque now in one of its towers.Some free time for shopping. Drive back to Port.
